R.O.C.E.

R.O.C.E.

Real-time Omnilingual Communication Engine — two dots that translate any language in the Numinous database in real time, with delay so minimal it is undetectable.

R.O.C.E. — the Real-time Omnilingual Communication Engine — consists of two dots. One goes in the ear of a subject, the other on the diaphragm.

It translates any language in its database in real time. The delay is so minimal it is basically undetectable.

Because alien languages are so fundamentally different that their words often have no direct equivalents, R.O.C.E. does not translate them literally. Instead, it interprets the intended meaning—the idea the speaker wishes to convey to the listener.

If you talk to an alien you will hear everything it says in English, and the alien will hear everything you say in its own language, if its language is in the database.

It is rare to encounter a language that is not in the Numinous database.

Database is monitored and edited by Elizabeths algorithm

Which as its creator loves and frequently uses ancient languages to translate alien words.

It's also a established tradition that Elizabeths algorithm chooses or helps to choose a alter ego names for sentries
